If you love history, Moscow has it in spades. It’s also the capital of Russia and one of the world’s most historic cities. Nestled against the Moskva River, Moscow is the home to impressive Red Square. Within it, you’ll find the State Historical Museum’s enormous collection of artifacts and the Kremlin Museum and the Armoury, filled with treasures of the tsars. Even the nearby GUM department store is an institution, brimming with people-watching opportunities and food within a palace-like structure.
Of course, Moscow is virtually synonymous with the colorful domes of St. Basil’s Cathedral. Be sure to visit Lenin’s Mausoleum if you have time. If you like being outside, make a picnic in lovely Alexander Garden or Gorky Park
You can even visit an underground bunker built in the 1950s to protect the population, Bunker 42.
